I have wanted to go to the Festival of Colors
ever since I have moved to Utah and have heard
about it. Last year I was really close to going, but
Hillarie had to head back to NM and it just didn't
work out. I was determined to go the next time and
I did! I was glad someone mentioned it was this week or
else I would have missed it again. Kayla, Katie, Rich
and I went together. The minute we got onto the
highway it was packed. It took forever to get to
Spanish Fork, but we eventually made it.
When we got into Spanish Fork we noticed a lot of
people were parking a long ways away and walking
to the temple. I knew we were going to have to walk but
I didn't think it would have to be that far. We decided it
would be best to pull over and park before we risk
getting any closer and not finding a place to park. We
had to walk about 1.8 miles to the temple. It was an
easy walk there, but after fighting the crowds at
the festival it was a long walk back. It was absolutely
crazy and scary walking to the festival. There were so
many people and cars trying to share the road.
Some people driving down the road would stick
there hands out the window asking for high fives, while
big trucks tried to run people over. It was quite an
adventure.
Getting into the Festival was really interesting.
Kayla and I prepaid so we wouldn't have to stand in
the long lines, but there was no real line. Everyone
just pushed their way to the front. For example, Kayla
and I left Katie and Rich to find the prepaid line. We
walked up a bit and weaved in and out of people trying
to figure out where the line was. We were standing in a
"line" when all of the sudden I see Katie and Rich. They
just pushed their way to the front of the line and caught
up with us. We decided to followed their lead and got
to the front a lot faster.
One thing that took me a bit to get use to was
random people throwing color on you or touching
you. I guess I expected that the only color throwing
happened at the set time. But it wasn't like that at all.
People were throwing it constantly-- At friends and
at complete strangers. Some were nice and threw it
on your back, while others were completely rude and
threw it at your face with no warning. Good thing it
was only corn starch and organic dye. Eventually
I found myself throwing it at random people too. It
was fun :) Enough about my ramblings though.
I know all you want to see is the pictures.
Before the throw:
Kayla, Katie and I trying to get a picture. I
was so scared that someone was going to throw
chalk in my face while trying to take the picture
(Hence the turned in face in the middle picture)
